Houthis Warn U.S. Forces of Approaching Yemen's territorial waters
The Ansar Allah (Houthi) group has warned U.S. forces against approaching Yemen's shores and territorial waters. The warning came hours after the U.S. Fifth Fleet said in a statement that more than 3,000 US military personnel had arrived in the Red Sea on board two warships to boost regional security and stop the Iranian harassment of merchant ships. Hussein Al-Ezzi, the deputy foreign minister in the Ansar Allah (Houthi) government, wrote in a Tweet on Tuesday, "In the interest of international peace and security and the preservation of the safety of navigation in the Red Sea, the American forces must move away from our territorial waters."
The American Center for Justice (ACJ) on Tuesday announced that the Southern Transitional Council's forces committed arbitrary measures and grave violations against Yemeni journalist Ahmed Maher. The ACJ urgently appealed for the immediate release of Maher, saying that he has completed one year in prison. Maher was kidnapped on August 6, 2022. He was kept at the Dar Saad police headquarters in Aden, and he was subjected to physical and psychological torture and enforced disappearance, according to his family. The family said Maher was forced to confess to participating in various terrorist crimes.
The International Organization for Migration of the United Nations announced that nearly 170 people have been displaced in Yemen during the past week. In its weekly report, the Organization said that it had reported the displacement of 28 Yemeni families (168 individuals) from July 30 to August 5. The Organization added that the displaced persons moved to Ma'rib, Hodeidah and Hadramout. According to U.N. reports, the total number of displaced persons from January 1 to August 5, 2023 reached 3,964 families, representing (23,784 individuals).
The United Nations on Tuesday said that its emergency plan to save the "Safer" is nearing its end, with 80 percent of the oil in the decayed ship off the Yemeni coast being pumped to the replacement tanker. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) said, "Work is taking place around the clock, seven days a week, to protect lives and livelihoods." According to the U.N. plan, the operation began on July 25 and will continue for 19 days.
