Taiz: Taking New Measures to Safeguard Humanitarian Organizations

The security forces in Yemen's Taiz province have tightened security measures to safeguard the offices of international and relief organizations and their staff. They have confiscated some weapons and explosives and made numerous arrests related to the assassination of Moayad Hamidi, the coordinator of the World Food Programme in Yemen. A ban on weapon possession by individuals or in cars has been implemented. Checkpoints have been established in the city's main entrances, and the operation of motorcycles has been restricted between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

Counterterrorism forces in Lahj province, to the south of Yemen, captured one of Al-Qaeda's prominent operatives in a house in Al Hawtah City on August 4, said a security source in Lahj. The source indicated that the captive is 31 years old, and he is an organizational leader and the media representative of Al-Qaeda in Lahj.

The Southern Transitional Council (STC) declared Saturday the death of three of its soldiers following clashes with the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group in the southern Yemeni province of Lahj. The STC said its forces repelled an attempted Houthi advance in Lahj on Friday and caused the Hourthi fighters heavy losses. 

The Houthi group on Saturday said negotiations with Saudi Arabia, under Omani sponsorship, have not stopped. Ali al-Qahoum, a member of the Supreme Political Bureau of the Houthis, said in a Tweet, "Talks and negotiations with Riyadh are continuing, and the Oman-led mediation exerts great efforts to make peace progress and resolve difficulties related to humanitarian files, such as opening airports and ports, and paying salaries…" He added that the negotiations are positive, and hopefully, the exchange of visions and ideas will succeed in finding solutions that alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
